Last we year we launched Maketh - a web design service at affordable rates for freelancers
There was only one problem - it wasn't affordable enough.
For many people just starting out, they don't have the cash - but they do have time. So we're expanding into a training service, piloting in 2016 for freelance musicians, so that you can have a proper, professional website for the price of an iPad and a few hours of graft.
We need a minimum of six people to make it viable - are you interested? Do you know anyone who might be? Please spread the word and drop us a line at email@example.com
The course will be designed around teaching you four main areas:
Learn how to setup WordPress and code a bit HTML. You'll be talking like a web geek in no time.
We won't turn you into a graphic designer but we can advise you on photography, how to select Themes to suit your brand image and other dos and dont's so you can bluff your way through like the best of them!
Add and edit your pages in WordPress without having to pay a developer. Advice for writing for the digital medium
How to promote your site, get found in search engines, have a social media strategy, and use Analytics to measure your site's success
For the pilot period only we'll get the cost down to £350 per person or lower if we can - just need to cover basic costs. This covers:
Every we show you to build will be fully responsive and work with popular tablets and smartphones.
Learn how to optimise for search engines – we'll even throw in a few content tips along the way!
Easily manage your site-wide content with Wordpress, the world's most popular CMS.
You're not alone – we're here to help you throughout your training and beyond.
Want some functionality that you can’t see on the list? Talk to us and we'll make it happen.
We'll either cost it up or, if it's an idea for a module we can reuse, we won't even charge you!
* The content page accommodates all the different layouts required by the modules
** may be extra subject to requirements
Here's a bit about us, in case you wanted to know...
Tim is the director of charity agency Long White Digital and thought up Maketh after saying "no" once too often (which he hates) to the type of people he admires the most. Now we can help people just like us - freelancers and entrepreneurs have great websites at a fraction of the cost.
Robb has been trying hard to look edgy and angular at various digital media agencies since 2005. He’s delivered award-winning campaigns and websites for clients across the charity, membership, fashion and arts sectors, and has had work and malformed opinions shared in Creative Review, .net magazine, Digital Arts, Computer Arts and NMA, among others.
Cecilia has worked in communications for over 15 years with experience across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. With an unerring sense of timing, she joined the digital industry just before the bubble burst, but liked it so much she stayed anyway. As someone who has been arranging words into pleasing combinations for most of her life, she counts herself very lucky that people are willing to pay her to do it.
Cambridge educated, Jake has been designing and building websites since 1998 when he found himself stranded in a bungalow in Sydney, Australia. What started as a diversionary tactic soon blossomed into a full-blown career despite the best efforts of two children, a dot com bubble burst and an alternative career as a globe-trotting musician with acclaimed quartet Get The Blessing. Jake lives in Bristol and likes to make soup.
Of course! Are you a charity? If so, our sister company Long White Digital takes care of our tailored service for not-for-profits. If you’re for-profit then just give us a call at Maketh and we’ll work something out. See 'Contact Us' at the top of the page.
Yes you can. There are a few terms and conditions but you can do this if you like.
Themes-only cost £849 plus VAT.
Sorry, yes we’ve been there. Unfortunately, whilst some of our customers are not VAT-registered a huge number are, and we’d prefer to show our lower (real) price to them and you. Consider going VAT registered? There’s not much to be lost, and possible gains.
We currently partner up with Bluehost who host all the Maketh sites. It’s cheap and cheerful and pretty reliable. We pass on the third party cost and a small management fee. This is incorporated into the costs for the first year, and billed annually thereafter on the anniversary of your website launch.
Not interactive and clickable yet, no - sorry. But in addition to the slideshow of homepages above, you can now preview full size homepage AND content pages of all 7 themes on our Prevue site.
Yes, we have a few now (and many more in production):
